Print quality

Every print is made to order by a photo lab in Germany, Saal Digital in Röttenbach or WhiteWall in Frechen. There are two finishes: acrylic glass prints and fine-art prints. Both hold the deep blacks of the flight deck and the light of its displays.

Acrylic glass

Thrust as a 40 × 60 cm print behind acrylic glass, on a wall above a sideboard

The picture sits behind 2 mm of crystal-clear acrylic glass and is sealed on the back with a 3 mm aluminium composite plate. One of the two labs exposes the photograph onto photo paper and laminates it behind the glass, the other prints it with UV inks directly onto the back of the glass. The face is glossy either way.

The glass adds depth and lifts colour and contrast. Displays glow, the cockpit stays dark, and small details like switch legends stay sharp. The print arrives ready to hang and sits slightly off the wall.

Fine-art print

Thrust as a 20 × 30 cm fine-art print with a white border, on a wall above a sideboard

Printed with pigment inks on Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta, a bright white paper made from 100 % alpha-cellulose. Barium sulphate in the coating gives it the look of the baryta papers used for classic darkroom prints: a silky sheen, a visible texture, strong contrast and deep blacks.

Each print has a 2 cm white border and is sent unframed, ready for a frame of your choice. Both labs are Hahnemühle Certified Studios, a status Hahnemühle gives to partner labs that print on its papers to its standard.

Care

Acrylic glass

Dust with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. For marks, use a little clean water. Avoid alcohol, glass cleaner and abrasive cloths.

Fine-art paper

Hold the print by its edges, ideally with cotton gloves. Once it is framed, the glass protects the surface.

Both

Hang it out of direct sunlight and away from heaters, like any photograph.
