FAQ

Answers about the photographs, the prints, the calendar and your order.

01

The photographs

Me, Aaron, from Frankfurt. I grew up around Düsseldorf Airport with a flight attendant for a mother, studied aviation management and have worked in the aviation industry for more than eight years. Photo and video assignments take me onto flight decks, into cabins and out onto the apron, and most of the photographs in this shop were made on those days, with the light that was there. More on the About page.

On airline flight decks and in cabins, from the Airbus A320 family and the A350 to the Boeing 777 and 787 and the Embraer E190. Every print comes with its story: the aircraft, the route and what was happening at that moment. You find it on each product page under “The Story Behind the Frame”.

No cropping: all photographs are 2:3, and every size from 20 × 30 to 80 × 120 cm shows the full frame. The large print shows the same picture as the small one, with more room for the switch legends.

02

Signed editions

A photograph in a limited edition of 25 prints, all in 80 × 120 cm. I number and sign each print by hand: the fine-art print in pencil on the white border, the acrylic glass on the back. Every print comes with a certificate I sign as well, recording the title, number, size and finish. Fine-art print or acrylic glass. Delivery is included in every EU country and takes about three weeks, because the print comes to me first to be signed. When the 25th print is sold, the edition is closed and I won’t sell the picture as a print again. The first edition, Positive Climb, is not sold as an open print. You’ll also find it as January in my 2027 calendar.

Each signed edition’s page shows how many of the 25 are still available.

Numbers are issued in the order the orders come in, a bit like a departure sequence. If a particular number matters to you, write to me before you order and I’ll see what is still free.

03

Sizes and finishes

Acrylic glass is glossy and deep, the cockpit stays dark and the displays glow, and the print arrives ready to hang. The fine-art print is pigment ink on Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta, a silk-gloss paper with the look of a classic darkroom print, sent unframed with a 2 cm white border for a frame of your choice. Choose acrylic for a single statement piece, the fine-art print for your own frame or a series in matching frames. The Print quality page shows both side by side.

Above a sofa or sideboard, a print about half to two-thirds of the furniture’s width usually looks right: 60 × 90 cm above a two-seater, 80 × 120 cm above a large sofa or on a wall of its own. Each product page has an “On the wall” view that shows your size to scale, so you can decide before you drill.

Yes. The size is the size of the whole sheet, and the photograph sits inside a 2 cm white border, so a 40 × 60 cm print fits a standard 40 × 60 cm frame. The prints are sent unframed. If you would rather not frame anything, the acrylic glass version arrives ready to hang.

Write to me. Other sizes are often possible. A custom size is made to your specification, so the 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply to it.

Every print is made to order by one of two photo labs in Germany, Saal Digital in Röttenbach or WhiteWall in Frechen near Cologne, and shipped straight to you. Behind acrylic glass it is a glossy print sealed on an aluminium composite plate; the fine-art print is made with pigment inks on Hahnemühle paper. Details on the Print quality page.

05

Orders and delivery

Every print is made to order. From order to your door it takes about 3–5 working days within Germany and about 4–8 elsewhere in the EU. That goes for both finishes. All countries and special cases are on the Shipping page. Signed editions take about three weeks and the calendar 5–7 working days within Germany. Both have their own sections above. If you need a print by a certain date, write to me before you order.

Nothing within Germany and the rest of the EU. Outside the EU it depends on the destination and the size and shows at checkout before you pay; the table is on the Shipping page.

Prints go to 51 countries: every EU country, the UK, Switzerland, Norway and Iceland, the USA, Canada, Mexico and Brazil, Australia and New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, India and more. The full list is on the Shipping page. Outside the EU, import duties and taxes may apply and are charged by your country. The calendar and the signed editions have their own country lists, see above.

By card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro, UnionPay), Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay, PayPal and Klarna. In some countries local methods such as Bancontact, BLIK, EPS and MobilePay appear at checkout.

A print can go straight to the person you have in mind: enter their address at checkout. Within the EU the parcel contains no prices, so nobody has to know what the view cost. The last order dates for Christmas are on the Shipping page. For ideas sorted by budget, see my gift ideas for pilots.

You can change or cancel an order within 2 hours of ordering, free of charge. Write to me by email or through the contact form. After that, your print is in production and can no longer be changed or cancelled.

You can return a print. As a consumer you can withdraw from your purchase within 14 days of delivery without giving a reason. Tell me by email or with the withdrawal form, and send the print back to my address in Frankfurt within 14 days at your own cost. You get the purchase price back, including standard shipping. Prints made to your own specification, such as a custom size or a personal dedication, are excluded. Details on the Shipping & returns page.

Email me within 14 days of delivery with your order number, a short description and at least two photos of the damage. I’ll arrange a replacement or a refund. Please keep the print and its packaging until the case is settled.

06

Hanging and care

It arrives with a hanging system fixed to the back. You need screws and wall plugs suited to your wall, and a spirit level. A tilted horizon looks fine in a turn, less so above the sofa.

Acrylic glass: dust it with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and use a little clean water for marks. Keep alcohol, glass cleaner and abrasive cloths away from it. Fine-art paper: hold the print by its edges, and once it is framed the glass protects the surface.

Both finishes use long-lasting materials: the picture sealed behind acrylic glass, or pigment inks on baryta paper. Hang the print out of direct sunlight and away from heaters, like any photograph. The sunsets included.

07

Business

I do supply offices, airlines and flight schools. For several prints, custom sizes or a whole wall, write to me with the space and the number of prints you have in mind, and I’ll put a proposal together.

Licensing a photograph is possible in many cases. Write to me with how and where you would like to use it, and I’ll come back to you with a quote.

You get an invoice: your order confirmation email is the invoice, and I send a PDF on request. It shows no VAT: I run PilotstoriesArt as a small business under § 19 UStG, so the price you see is the full price and there is no input VAT to reclaim.

Still have a question? I read and answer every message myself.
